Eye twitching and its types
Eye twitching is an involuntary spasm of the eyelid muscles. It is a pretty common occurrence and usually affects the upper eyelid but might occur on both lids. It can be generalized into 3 types.

Blepharospasm
Hemifacial spasm
Myokymia
It is the most common type of eye twitching caused by factors related to lifestyle. It is a spontaneous contraction of the muscle. It is more common in the lower eyelids. It lasts for a short period and is manageable with some lifestyle changes.
Blepharospasm and hemifacial spasm
These conditions are more serious with an underlying medical condition related to genetics and that might need a doctor’s consultation.
Blepharospasm is more severe and might last for seconds, minutes and sometimes hours. In this, the spasm can be strong enough to close your eyes shut.
Causes of eye twitching
In rare cases, eye twitching can be a result of brain or nerve disorders. These include Bell Palsy, dystonia, cervical dystonia, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s disease and Tourette syndrome.
Common causes of eyelid twitching are related to lifestyle. They may include:
Stress
Stress is one of the most common causes of eye twitching. If you feel that your eye is twitching, then just get rid of everything that’s giving you stress. Do whatever you want to but remove the stressors.
Eyestrain
If you spend your whole day in front of a screen, then it’s time to take frequent breaks from it. Give your eyes time to relax and reduce the eye strain.
Lack of sleep
If you’re not well-rested, it might also be a reason for your eye to twitch. A healthy body needs at least 7-9 hours of sleep per night. So spend some extra time and give your body a good rest.
Excessive caffeine intake
Too much coffee gives too much energy to your body. Just in case your caffeine intake is high, try to deduct it and observe whether it causes any improvement or not.
Dry eyes
Dry eyes can be a reason for eye twitching as well. It can be resolved by inducing artificial tears.
Alcohol consumption
Same as caffeine, if your alcohol intake is high, then you need to deduct it as not only it causes blurry vision but also eye twitching.
How can you manage your eye twitching?
You just need to work on the above-mentioned points ( sleep more, reduce caffeine and alcohol consumption etc). A few changes in the lifestyle-related to these causes can manage how frequently your eye twitches, but if there is no noticeable improvement then you should have a talk with your doctor.
