Xander Bylsma, who murdered two teenage girls have been given two life sentences by the North West high court on Friday.
He murdered the girls in their school hostel at Hoërskool Stella near Vryburg on May 21 2018.
According to the police spokesperson, Sabata Mokgwabone, Bylsma was unfit to possess a firearm in terms of section 103 of the Firearms Control Act.
22-year-old Bylsma was convicted following the deaths of Marna Engelbrecht, 17, and Sharnelle Hough, 16, who were killed at the hostel.
He strangled the girls to death to make it look like it was suicidal.
Their bodies were later discovered by the hostel matron.
He was 19 years when he committed that crime.
North West provincial police commissioner Lt-Gen Sello Kwena was pleased with the sentences and commended detectives for being able to connect the accused with the crimes.
He said the sentence would make others aware that gender-based violence would not be accommodated and those who engage in such crimes will not go scot free.
