Bandile Masuku, Gauteng Health MEC is distancing himself from corruption allegations related to COVID-19 relief funds.
It was reported that he influenced the awarding of a multi-million rand PPE tender to Royal Bhaca PROJECTS.
The company is owned by Khusela Diko, who is a husband of Presidency spokesperson.
In a statement, he said the allegations are false and lack any foundation.
The MEC said he requested a forensic audit into COVID-19 procurement.
He also said if there’s evidence of corruption at the Gauteng health department, action will be taken, and offenders prosecuted.
Masuku said:
“The SIU investigation commenced in May 2020 and the Premier’s office will announce the findings as soon as they become available. As the originator of the process, I wholly support the SIU’s investigation. If evidence of corruption is found at the Gauteng Department of Health, action will be taken, and offenders prosecuted.”
