South Africans woke up to a rather bizarre top trend today, as #MalemaReturnsToANC was at the summit of the most popular topics.
What is the truth behind the hashtag that claims EFF leader, Julius Malema is going back to his old party?
Well, it’s a fallacy. It’s not based on any news story or important political developments, and it seems to be something of a cynical ploy from Twitter users.
The hashtag has been created overnight to encourage accounts to boost their numbers of followers. Indeed, the eye-catching phrase seems to have helped.
For those needing official confirmation, EFF representative Mbuyiseni Ndlozi has completely rubbished the rumors that have emerged from the campaign, labeling them as ‘fake news’:

Julius Malema had previously served as the ANC Youth League leader, before acrimoniously splitting with the ruling party. He formed the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) in 2013.
