Young Greatness, an American rapper who is best known for his 2015 track Moolah, which has had more than 30 million views on YouTube, was shot dead in New Orleans.
34-year-old Young Greatness who was shot in the early hours of Monday outside a branch of the Waffle House food chain, peaked at number 85 in the Billboard Hot 100 chart with his song Moolah and was remixed the following year with Lil Wayne and Yo Gotti.
The police who are seeking to arrest two suspects, confirmed that a gunshot wound was the cause of death. Quality Control label, the late rapper’s label which he joined in 2015 and went on to release mixtapes including I Tried To Tell Em and Bloody Summer, marked his death on Monday with a tweet saying: “Rest in Paradise Young Greatness.”
The victim’s mother Jeanine Rose told a local TV station he was in the city to attend a funeral and was on the phone to his manager when the shooting started. Police were called at 1.35am and found him face down with a bullet wound in his back in Elysian Fields Avenue, reports the New Orleans Times-Picayune.
This follows up the violent deaths of a number of other rappers in 2018. XXXTentacion, real name Jahseh Onfroy, was shot dead in his BMW by a hooded gunman in Pompano Beach, Florida, in June. Jimmy Wopo was gunned down on the same day in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
