A Nigerian, Augusta Uwamanzu-Nna, has been offered admission to study in eight Ivy League schools in the United States.
Uwamanzu-Nna, a student at Elmont Memorial High School in the US, also has admission offers from other institutions.
She followed in the footsteps of another Nigerian, Harold Ekeh, from the same school.
Ekeh was also given admission into eight top-notch schools, including Yale University, which he eventually chose to attend.
Uwamanzu-Nna, who was a finalist at the 2016 Intel Science Talent Search, for her research on cement, however, said her feat was a result of persistence.
She said, “My recent accomplishments reflect the hardworking ideals of the town of Elmont, my supportive parents and my dedicated teachers. I am elated, but most importantly, I am thankful. I have struggled with numerous classes in the past. But I guess what allowed me to be successful was my persistence and tenacity.”
In 2016, a pupil of Dowen College, Lekki, Lagos, Serena Omo-Lamai, was granted admission to study in 13 universities in America and Canada.
Omo-Lamai, who was 17 years at the time, however, opted for Syracuse University, United States, to study Biomedical Engineering.
