Cristiano Ronaldo’s court date over alleged tax fraud has been set

Cristiano Ronaldo Tax Fraud – As transfer rumours continue to swirl around Cristiano Ronaldo, the legal system in Spain is moving its gears.

On Tuesday, El Confidencial report that Cristiano Ronaldo’s court date has been set for July 31, 2017.

Ronaldo is accused of concealing money earned from his image rights totalling 14.8 million euros.

Cristiano Ronaldo is expected to testify at the Madrid court hearing on the final day of July.

There are many similarities with Leo Messi’s recent tax fraud case in which the Barcelona star avoided a prison term but paid a hefty sum to the Spanish authorities.

Ronaldo’s court date will will be at 11:00 am in the Court of Instruction number one of Pozuelo de Alarcón, in Madrid.

Following the tax allegations, Cristiano Ronaldo put out a lengthy and strongly worded statement defending himself.

The Ronaldo case is complicated and full of legal nuances

In 2015, El Confidencial report that Ronaldo paid 5.6 million euros voluntarily to the tax authorities in Madrid.

The Spanish newspaper also add that the Spanish tax authorities argued internally over whether to bring Ronaldo to court.

They add that the Ronaldo case is complicated and full of legal nuances and that whilst the tax authorities in Spain started with Barcelona, they are now targeting Real Madrid.

Cristiano Ronaldo currently at the Confederations Cup

Real Madrid superstar Cristiano Ronaldo is currently with Portugal at the Confederations Cup.

Portugal played their first game against Mexico on Sunday and drew 2-2.

Hosts Russia play Portugal on Wednesday. The final of the competition is on July 2, 2017.

Ronaldo was not expected to be available for Real Madrid until late August and was tipped to miss the European Super Cup final against Manchester United on August 8, 2017.
