Spanish paper Mundo Deportivo have claimed on Tuesday that the winner of 2016 Ballon d’Or is already known.
In news that will surprise few, Cristiano Ronaldo is set to beat Leo Messi to the prestigious award.
2016 has been a remarkable year for the Real Madrid star. He scored the winning penalty in the 2016 Champions League final against Atletico Madrid, while he helped lead Portugal to their first major trophy at Euro 2016.
As for his main rival, Messi, he won La Liga with FC Barcelona, while he lost the Copa America final to Chile.

When is official not official?
Mundo Deportivo claim their information on Ronaldo is “official”.
The proof will only be known on December 12, when France Football announce who has won the 2016 Ballon d’Or.
For the record, FIFA no longer have anything to do with the Ballon d’Or following a split between the organisers.
