C’ River partners Ita-Giwa on Calabar food festival

As part of a new concept to add spice to the famous Calabar Carnival, the Cross River State Government will be partnering a former presidential adviser, Senator Florence Ita-Giwa, on the maiden edition of the African Food Festival to be held in Calabar.

The event, which will showcase the best cuisines from several regions in Africa, will feature the first African Culinary Boot Camp for knowledge transfer and skill acquisition among participants.

The project, according to Ita-Giwa, aims to showcase the abundance of indigenous delicacies as a formidable tool for ordinary tourism as well as empower participants with the needed knowledge and funding for business start-ups.

“It will create awareness and interest in the ordinary potential in Cross River State to achieve measurable socio-economic benefits.“It will also excite target audience by offering entertainment using a core attribute of the Calabar people who are known and celebrated for the excellent cuisines. It is sponsored by Dangote Foods,” she added.

The ceremony, which runs from December 21 to 23, is the initiative of Ita-Giwa with the support of Dangote Food. Cross River State Governor, Prof. Ben Ayade, said another major objective of the new concept is to create awareness and interest in the culinary prowess of the state and the African continent.

“Our objective is to create awareness and interest in the culinary prowess of Cross River State and African continent as a whole. It will also offer entertainment using the core attribute of the Calabar people who are known and celebrated for their excellent cuisines.
