An American superhero movie, Black Adam, will be released in 2022 based on the DC Comics superhero of the same name. It is the eleventh film in the DC Extended Universe and a spin-off of Shazam! (2019), produced by New Line Cinema, DC Films, Seven Bucks Productions, and FlynnPictureCo. The film stars Dwayne Johnson (who also produced it) as the title character, Aldis Hodge, Noah Centineo, Sarah Shahi, Marwan Kenzari, Quintessa Swindell, Bodhi Sabongui, and Pierce Brosnan, and was directed by Jaume Collet-Serra from a script by Adam Sztykiel, Rory Haines, and Sohrab Noshirvani.

Early on in production, Johnson was tied to Shazam! and confirmed to play the villain Black Adam in September 2014. However, the producers later opted to give the character his own film. During the month of October of 2017, Sztykiel was hired. Collet-Serra started in June 2019 with an anticipated delivery date of December 2021; however, the rollout has been pushed back due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The following year saw more casting, including four members of the Justice Society of America (JSA), and a rewrite of the script by Haines and Noshirvani. The shoot lasted from April to August of 2021 at Trilith Studios in Atlanta, Georgia, as well as in Los Angeles.

The premiere of Black Adam took place on October 3, 2022, in Mexico City, and the film was then released in theaters across the United States by Warner Bros. Pictures on October 21, 2022. Critics were divided on the film’s action sequences and the film’s overall quality, with some praising them while others found fault with the film’s villain and narrative.
